  • If you are from California, you can pick up your marriage License at your local clerks office. Be sure to bring it with you! (Due to state restrictions, a confidential marriage license may only be used in the County in which it is issued)

  • From out of state, you may pick up your license weekdays from 9a-5p from one of many San Diego County Clerk's Office (Directions and Information)

  • On Saturday's, you can visit the Kearny Mesa branch of the County Clerks office. (directions and Information) The office is open on from 9am - 3pm.

What are the requirements to obtain a marriage license?

  • NO BLOOD TEST IS REQUIRED.

  • The Bride and Groom-to-be must be at least 18 years old and must appear together - no exceptions.

  • Both the Bride and Groom-to-be must have valid identification.

  • All marriage licenses are valid for 90 from date of issue.

  • Know your parents names, mothers' maiden name and places of their birth.

  • Bring a copy of final divorce decree if you have divorced within the past 6 months.
     

For Confidential Licenses:

  • Must have lived together as husband and wife.

  • The Bride and Groom-to-be must be at least 18 years old and must appear together - no exceptions.

  • Can be issued only in county where wedding is to be performed.

  • Since there is no public record, if your file is lost or accidentally destroyed, there will be NO PUBLIC RECORD of your license. If you should need a copy both of you must appear in person. If you should move, you cannot obtain a copy by mail.

The fee for a regular marriage license in San Diego County is $50.00

Marriage licenses are valid throughout the State of California, except Confidential licenses that must be obtained in the county in which the wedding is performed. These apply to those 18 years or older only.
